Speeches from the Rabbit Hole Ball
We had a wonderful event in Sydney at the end of last month. I am providing links to the speeches in this article. The talks were a perfect cross section of the community: a church minister, a lawyer, a firefighter and an economist.
First was Father Dave Smith, the “Fighting Father” talking about his work with disadvantaged youth. He incorporates various physical therapies in his work, of which boxing is a part. Dave has been up against many challenges in his career. The link to his talk is here:

The videos are available on bitchute so they don’t embed in substack, but you can play them from the bitchute channel of “Springwater Greg” who did the filming for us.
In his newsletter, the week after Father Dave wrote:
“Finally, let me close by thanking all those responsible for the wonderful Down the Rabbit Hole Ball that happened last Saturday night. A special thank you to Andrew and Lena Madry, to our speakers, Gigi, Tony and Steve, to Joel, our incomparable MC, and to all who poured time and effort into the event. It was a wonderful night…
Yes, the event was a fundraiser for Fighting Fathers Ministries and … that will certainly help keep the wheels turning, and is deeply appreciated. What was even more appreciated by me personally though was the sense I had at the event of being a part of a supportive community again. I once used to feel that with the church – that they had my back.
Even so, when things went pear-shaped for me in 2020, my church abandoned me. That’s how it felt anyway. Reconnecting with a new community has taken a while but last Saturday night was a significant transitional moment for me. Thank you.
May the Lord bless and strengthen you for the work to which you have been called.
The sentiment in italics above sums up the success of the event.
You can find more about his work at his website fatherdave.org. His weekly online church service is found at thesundayeucharist.com (Sunday midday, Sydney time). People participate from around the world.
Tony Nikolic is a Sydney based lawyer who has advocated for people unjustly treated throughout the pandemic. He took the New South Wales Health Minister to court to fight the public heath orders and workplace vaccine mandates. Tony’s talk is here:

You will get a laugh, with funny bit from 9 min 30 sec, about the unvaccinated people helping during the floods in Northern NSW.
Steve McDonald is a firefighter from NSW Fire and Rescue. He was stood down with over 200 others for refusing the jab. They are still out of work after almost 2 years and we are hoping that very soon the mandates will be dropped for them. It has become beyond absurd. Steve’s speech is here:

Steve used a nice analogy at 16 min 15 sec mark.
Our keynote speaker was Professor Gigi Foster from the University of NSW. She has been a leading light from academia in Australia. Her talk is here:

It was inspiring.
Gigi mentioned during her talk that she had just been interviewed for a piece on the 60 Minutes program. In the week after I saw a headline on my iPhone’s legacy media:
“A controversial economist has brutally warned "lazy" Australians, saying they must get off the "couch" to keep the economy from sliding into ...”
I thought oh-oh the lamestream media is at it again. I found the interview. I haven’t watched 60 minutes for many, many years, the reporters seem to have become really lame from what I remember of 60 minutes in the old days. It turned out the point Gigi was making was that the government is not going to fix the mess they have created. Ultimately it will be up to individuals, as it was after the Second World War. She used the expression “lazy boy couch”. She certainly didn’t blame lazy Australians. But what can we do?
It was wonderful to see everyone have a good time at the event, forming new connections and local networks. Lena and I are grateful to have had the support of some long-time friends and to have made new friends through this journey.
